Plumbing – A Job Best Left to the Pros

By on Apr 30, 2015 in Plumbing |

The sound of a dripping pipe or overflowing toilet – those are not welcome noises for the typical homeowner. There are a number of reasons for this, reasons that include the inherent dirty nature of plumbing, the damage that water can do, and the degree of difficulty involved in repairing pipes and fixtures. With all of these issues, it’s no wonder why the average homeowner in Chicago should simply call the experts at Apex Plumbing right away instead of attempting to make repairs themselves.

Dirty Water

When a clean water pipe bursts or an inlet valve to a sink leaks, it’s usually not as daunting as other problems, because at least you know the water is clean. It usually seems, however, that the problems occur on the other end of the pipes, in the drain trap, the toilet or elsewhere that you will find dirty water. Nobody likes to deal with dirty water—even licensed and experienced plumbers. The water is smelly, it stains, and it can carry bacteria that can make you very sick.

Water Damage

There is an old saying: “Water always wins.” It’s true. Once water escapes from a pipe or valve, it will conquer all, getting into everything and slowly wearing away everything in its path, from drywall, to wood, to stone. For this reason, a slow leak can sometimes be more damaging than a large one, doing thousands of dollars in damage before it is found or repaired. Add to that the complications of dirty water, the contamination that it brings and the expense of cleanup, and it becomes clear that plumbing problems are bad news, and they should be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Doing It Yourself

Many homeowners at one point or another look at a minor water problem and thinks “I don’t need a plumber for that—I’ll fix it myself.” These thoughts are often the first steps down a road to disaster that’s paved with long hours and possibly multiple trips to the hardware store. Pipes and fixtures are often located in tight spots, rusted into place and react poorly to any attempt to fix or even move them. A ten-minute cheap fix can turn into a several hundred dollar project in a hurry if you’re not careful. This is yet another reason why many people should wisely choose to call Apex Plumbing rather than face their own plumbing difficulties.
