Considerations And Benefits To Tankless Water Heaters In Chicago Homes

By on May 19, 2020 in blog |

While tankless water heaters are not one of the newest technologies in the HVAC industry, they are still relatively uncommon in most Chicago homes. These systems can replace existing tank water heaters, or they can be installed in new homes in the area.

At Apex Plumbing & Sewer, Inc., we want our customers to choose the water heater system that is the best match for their needs. In general, tankless systems are more expensive to install initially. Still, they last significantly longer than traditional water tanks, and they are as much as 22% more efficient over their life.

Size and Space Considerations

The size of tankless water heaters is an advantage for new home construction, and this may also be a benefit in replacing a traditional water heater with a tankless option. Without the need for the large space the traditional tank requires, the water heater location becomes less of a factor in the layout of the home.

At the same time, there may be additional systems required in Chicago for the tankless heaters. For example, a water softener is often required, and this is both an additional cost as well as additional equipment and space.

Hot Water Volume

Both tankless water heaters and traditional water heaters provide a good volume of hot water for a smaller household. However, with both systems, the more demand for hot water at one time, the greater the risk of running out. With a traditional 30 to 80-gallon hot water tank, the risk is much less than with tankless water heaters.
